January 29th. It is 10 a.m. After 31 hours of flight, I finally arrived in Rotorua. The first thing I thought about seeing the landscape is : unreal. What a beautiful landscape ! I understand why tourists come to relax ! I had never seen this before. The sky is incredible blue, nature is all around us, I breathe finally good air. It is so nice ! I notice on the road to reach the inn that there are many lakes.
Once arrived, I meet my hosts and eat my very first dish typical of here : the « Whitebait ». They are small white fish cooked in a typical Maori way.
Around noon, I leave for the Maori village, called Whakarewarewa. In this village, we can see how Maori, the early people of New Zealand, lived on a daily basis. This retraces their story. I learned a lot and it’s really interesting to see how this people lived.
Around 6 p.m, here I am back at my hosts. Feeling fit, I decided to go bike riding. The Rotorua cycle paths allow to better appreciate the nature and to discover the numerous lakes in this region.
Once back home, it’s dinner time. I still have the wonderful chance to taste a new traditional Maori dish : The Hangi. Mainly vegetarian dish, sometimes accompanied by meat. It is delicious !
Around 10 p.m, exhausted this day, I go to sleep looking forward to doing new activities tomorrow.
